The alleged world’s first free standing 5-litre jerry can for the transportation of hazardous products has been produced.
RPC Containers have developed a 130g free standing jerry can to replace the usual combination pack of either two or four containers inside a cardboard carton.
The container is produced in a grade of polymer which is reported to provide excellent rigidity along with high impact performance and resistance to stress cracking.
As a result, the container has met stringent requirements and is now approved by the UN.
“This is a fantastic breakthrough,” said Mike Winston, General Sales Manager of RPC Containers UKSC. “To achieve such a robust and durable 5 Litre container at only 130g is a major achievement. It both simplifies customers’ UN packing requirements and offers significant cost savings.”
The product was made in conjunction with Nexus Packaging, whose Director Mark Ferguson said: “There is much confusion and fear within the chemical packaging industry over legislative requirements. The 130g 5 Litre UN free standing certificate enables UN requirements to be met using a standard 5 litre container and cap, while giving far more freedom in the choice and specification of outer packaging.”
